Varanasi Flood Prediction Fulfilled
Varanasi Flood Prediction Fulfilled: Ganga and Varuna Rivers Submerge Ghats and Homes
On June 9th, I made a prediction that Varanasi would face severe flooding this season. Today, that exact prediction has come to pass. Both the Ganga and Varuna rivers have taken on a furious form, rapidly swelling and inundating key areas across the holy city.
Ground Reality: Rising Waters Cause Citywide Alert
The floodwaters have surged past the iconic ghats, entering dozens of residential homes and low-lying neighborhoods. What began as my early forecast on social media is now an active crisis affecting daily life, rituals, and local livelihoods.
- Submerged Ghats and Crematoriums: Normal access to the riverbanks is cut off as floodwaters reach cremation grounds and temples.
- High Alert in Effect: Strict advisories remain active along the entire stretch of the riverfront to keep residents and pilgrims safe.
- NDRF Deployment & Relief Shelters: National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are actively rescuing affected families, and emergency relief shelters are operational.
